There is such a spirit of rejection attacking God’s children. Too many sons and daughters feel that they don’t belong anywhere, and so desperately are trying to fit in to the world, enduring rejection time and time again. Folks getting beat up by the world, going home to nurse their wounds, only to trek out again on the wasted trip to futility. What is wrong with this picture? And are you in it?
Unhealed hurts, unmet needs, unresolved issues caused by the very people that we then expect to repair the precise damage they caused. Expecting hurt people to heal your hurt is like expecting Hannibal the Cannibal to not eat you for dinner. So why do so many of us continue to travel on this road to rejection?
It reminds me of the story of a beaver who encountered a scorpion who was waiting on a ride to get across the river. The scorpion asked the beaver for a jaunt on his back, and the beaver rightfully scoffed “you are a scorpion, you will bite me and I will die. You must think I am crazy.” This conniving crustacean, feigning being emotionally wounded, retorted “Now, come on. I wouldn’t do that to you after you would be so kind to give me help. I have been here for a long long time. Be that good Samaritan and help your neighbor out.” The clueless mammal said “well, I guess you’re right. That would be silly. Okay, hop on.” The two traveled across the water, wrapped up in cordial conversation, asking about each other’s family and friends. As the beaver put his foot on the shore, he suddenly felt a sharp pinch. Realizing that he had just been bitten, he asked as he lay dying “Why?” The scorpion smugly replied “Because I am a scorpion.”
So many people, including God’s own children, continue to travel down this road, because they still zumba fitness workout gear try to fit in to the world, rather than fitting in to God. When you don’t truly believe that you belong to God, that you are His and He is yours, and you are hidden in Christ, you will look to a broken world to toss you a bone. My brothers and sisters, this should not be!
We are hid in Christ. Get this image, not in your head, but in your heart. You already fit in, because you fit in to Jesus! Our Soothing Savior has our back. In truth, He has all of us. This place of hiddenness is such a glorious, wonderful, and welcoming solace of incredible intimacy, and amazing friendship.
When we step into the comfort of Christ, we are dead to the world, meaning its ways, accusations, opinions, harshness and cruel words don’t affect us. They don’t affect us because we are dead! What dead flesh do you know feels anything? Any pain, sorrow, or anguish? None I know!
I know it’s hard. Believe me, I know. But I am here to encourage many of you today who are hurting and struggling to find acceptance. Jesus died for the very same people who He knew would reject Him. God grew the very tree that He knew His One and Only beloved and begotten Son would eventually hang upon, dying an unspeakably horrific death. And He did it so that we would have a place, in Him, to always know that we know that we know we are safe, loved, and unconditionally belong.
Rest in Him today, family. Delight in having Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Son of Man, the Savior of the world as your one true hiding place–your place of unconditional belonging, unquestionable acceptance, and authentic identity.
Father, we repent for every time we rejected You for the world. Forgive us for looking elsewhere, when You are more than enough for us. Draw us back to you, Oh Loving Father. Pick us up, dust us off, heal our every hurt and meet our every need. Remove any impulse or restlessness from us, settle any wandering spirit that we may be wrestling with. Cause Your peace that surpasses all understanding to be still in us and in our lives. In Jesus Name, we thank You that we are divinely hid in Him. Amen and Amen.
Take action! Challenge your thinking! Choose to stop caring what the world thinks about you. Determine to be dead to the vicious attacks and cruel taunting of society. Forsake trying to find your self-worth and identity in the false, fickle, condemning, and bankrupt face of the world. And continue to fight the good fight of staying hid in Christ; for God, your Perfect Fit, has already given you the victory!
If you have never received Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I encourage you to do it today, right now, by saying this prayer out loud: “Jesus, forgive me for my sins. I am sorry. I truly desire to be saved and reconciled back to God, my Father, through You. I receive Your sinless Blood as payment in full for my sins–past, present, and future. I now call You my Lord and Savior, and invite You to live within my heart, and to permanently live within me. I make You Lord over me and over my life from this moment on. Amen.” Congratulations! You are now a child of God, made whole and made new, by the Blood of Jesus Christ!
